On
March 11, 1994, Kaufman accepted the appointment of Harris County Commissioners
Court to the office of County Clerk. She was elected to a full four-year term
in November 1994 by sixty-one percent (61.3%) and reelected in 1998, 2002 and
2006. Her administration has expanded and streamlined services as well as
introduced electronic voting to our county. She was born in Houston and grew up
on a farm in Waller County. She was married 39 years to Al Kaufman, a retired
printing salesman, and their daughter, Vanessa, is a media production
coordinator in Los Angeles.
